Why not?

Paul was a musical spectator throughout his life, after playing the trumpet - poorly - during a semester in middle school. Ultimately inspired by his kids’ musical chops, and after his wife signed him up - against his wishes - for a ukulele lesson, he went on to buy his first guitar at age 60. That was 2019, and then Covid hit, launching Paul’s long-delayed musical journey.

“Like everyone, I was stuck at home during the pandemic, and my new musical toys were laughing at me. So I made friends with them, and began writing and recording songs.”

Fast forward 3 years … His creation of 5 albums, filled with 38 originals and six covers, are characterized as “multi-genre Americana”, incorporating folk, country, blues, and rock; he chooses the vibe that best fits each unique song he has written. His collaborations with instrumentalists around the world, and a talented team in his hometown of Portland Oregon, has accelerated his journey, while blessing each track with unique sounds.

Much as he has written and published books in his past, as a songwriter, Paul’s original stories are triggered by sounds, personal experience, and his deep observance of the world around us. His vast unpublished lyrical catalog is ready for continued musical production in the years ahead.

“My songs are primarily ballads, stories of relatable concepts, which move melodically from introduction, to body, and onto resolution in a fairly concise - 3 minute average song length. I like to leave plenty of room for listeners’ unique interpretations, while intriguing them, offering reasons to listen to the end of every song.”

Previously reliant on the talents of session musicians and friends to create his albums, In 2023, Paul began his formation of “The True Originals”, a hometown group of like-minded instrumentalists, to take his music to stage. The True Originals multi-decade instrumentalists, stage-experienced, and passionate about providing the musical magic that surrounds Paul’s vocals, rhythm guitar, and occasional harmonica.
